This is because if you pair the card on 6th street and bet, your opponents might think that you have at least trips and might fold. So betting on 5th, with the chance of scooping the pot and having all your cards live, would increase your chances of winning the pot.

hand for your side right now, the next is to play your hand in a way that would knock out the players going the other way. Like for example, you were going for low and you got an ace on 5th street, you should raise because players going for high might think that you paired your aces and would fold.
